Jonathan C. Morgan

Jonathan Cheshier Morgan, 39, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Friday, April 3, 2020, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Jonathan was born in Jonesboro and lived most of his life in the town. He attended Nettleton High School with the class of 1999. Jonathan was a member of Nettleton Baptist Church where he attended with his family through the years. He loved bible study and reading scripture.

Jonathan enjoyed the outdoors and was a boy scout in his youth. He liked helping and assisting others and was quick with a joke and a smile. Thus his nickname “Smiley.”

Jonathan enjoyed a variety of activities growing up. He was an Arkansas state champion gymnast in the high bar, a Kansas state champion BMX racer, played football under his father’s coaching before playing in Junior High for Nettleton Public Schools, and was a certified scuba diver.

Jonathan loved to sing, play the guitar and piano. His love of learning was always evident. He enjoyed facts and knew a little bit of everything. From his youth until days just before his passing, he loved writing and expressing his feelings.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clem Morgan, his maternal grandparents: Gerald and Juanita Bowers Cheshier, and his paternal grandparents: Robert (Bob) and Frances Morgan.

Survivors include Candy Lawrence Crawford of the home;
his mother, Jeannette Cheshier Morgan of Jonesboro;
his sister and brother-in-law: Dia and John Sawyer of Jonesboro;
1 aunt and her husband: Jerri and Stan McMillin of Jonesboro;
2 uncles and their wives: Johnny and Raye Morgan of Hartford and Tommy and Gwen Morgan of Jonesboro;
8 nieces and nephews: Caleb, Justus, Elliette, Lola, Jude, Eva, Keane and Sophie Sawyer;
6 cousins: Wayne (Lesa) McClard, Shellie (Brad) Barnett, Mike (Elizabeth) Morgan, Brian (Jennifer) Morgan, Kevin Morgan and Stephen Morgan.

There will be a family-only graveside funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Friday in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery where Jonathan will be laid to rest next to his father. There will be no visitation due to the COVID19 social distancing guidelines. Those who would like to join the 1:30 pm Friday processional to the cemetery are welcomed to line up and remain in their vehicles at Emerson Funeral Home. They will then process to Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. After arriving at the cemetery guests are to remain in or beside their vehicles and are invited to watch the online graveside service live-streamed from the Emerson Funeral Home facebook page. After the service, guests may drive past the graveside and show their respects as they leave the cemetery.
