Johnny Franklin Van Horn

Johnny F. Van Horn, 73, passed away January 4, 2023 at St. Bernards Medical Center.  He was born to Thurman and Dorothy Van Horn on August 11, 1949 in Pine Bluff.

Johnny loved spending time with his sons, Jonathan and Hunter, travelling, and being on the family farm.

Johnny was proud of his numerous professional accomplishments. He had two criminal prosecution case articles published in the IRS-Criminal Investigation Division Digest; was a member of the Faculty Senate at Arkansas State University; member of the Board of Directors for Northeast Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants; Arkansas State University, MBA Research Paper, Corporate Governance: Sarbanes-Oxley Act; recipient of IRS Superior Performance Awards in 1990, 1992, 1993, 1997, and 1999; received a Letter of Accommodation from the Department of Justice, IRS Regional and District Counsel, U.S. Attorney; was an Undercover Agent, Contact Agent, and Projects Administrator; received the Distinguished Expert Award in Standard Firearms Qualification Course, Sig Sauer 9 mm; trained in the Execution of Search Warrants (drug and financial) and member of SWAT entry team; was a member of the United Nations 50 th Anniversary U.S. Secret Service protection detail of the President of Somalia; was involved in the U.S. Secret Service, Presidential Campaign Protection Jump Team; received U.S. Secret Service Dignitary Protection training; received Basic Instructor’s Training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center; and was a Certified Law Enforcement Instructor in the State of Arkansas.

Johnny held several degrees and certifications. He obtained his Masters of Business Administration from Arkansas State University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Arkansas. Johnny was a certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was certified in Financial Forensics and was a university faculty associate member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

For many years, Johnny was an instructor at Arkansas State University in the Accounting and CIT department. He also served as an adjunct instructor in the Accounting and Law Department. Johnny used his talents to found Van Horn Financial Consulting, LLC, working with many significant clients and cases. Prior to starting his own consulting firm, Johnny was a special agent in the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Dorothy Van Horn; one brother, Leon Hicks; and Jonathan’s mother, Linda Van Horn.

Johnny is survived by his two sons, Jonathan Gray (Andrea) Van Horn and Hunter Lynn Van Horn; three brothers, Larry (Diane) Van Horn of California, Jerry (Leigh) Van Horn of Texas, Jimmy (Julie) Van Horn of Texas, and two grandchildren, Thomas Conrad Van Horn and Charlotte Sue Van Horn.

The family welcomes guests to drop in for a wake on January 21, 2023, at the main dining at Houlihan’s in the Embassy Suites from 3 – 6 pm.

Burial will be private.
