Johnnie Carolyn Block

Johnnie Carolyn Block, 76, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born in Dyer County, Tennessee, Mrs. Block moved to Fisher at an early age and lived in the Waldenburg area until she moved to Jonesboro in 1992. She was a homemaker and devoted to her family. She attended church and school activities with her children and grandchildren as much as possible. She was a member of the Weiner Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School when her children were young. She was friendly and outgoing, and never met a stranger. She enjoyed her time as a volunteer with St. Bernard’s Auxiliary where her caring attitude and listening skills helped support the families with loved ones in the hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Block, Jr., and her parents, Rufus and Jessie Clayton Lee.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: Rick and Sandy Block of Waldenburg;

one daughter and son-in-law: Kathy Block and Roehl Johnson of Jonesboro;

3 grandchildren and a spouse: Cale and Jamie Block of Little Rock, and Eleanor Johnson and David Johnson, both of Jonesboro; and

her best friend since grade school, Inez Maynard and husband, L.B. of Jonesboro.

A graveside funeral service will be held Friday morning at 9:30 in Waldenburg Cemetery. A memorial service will follow Friday morning at 11:00 in the Chapel of First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers include David Bible, Bruce Combs, Mike Gillis, Erick Hardesty, L.B. Maynard, Rickey Block, Cale Block, Roehl Johnson and David Johnson.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
