John A. Stewart

John Alton Stewart, 73, of Jonesboro, passed away Monday May 14, 2012 at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was born March 29, 1939 in Jonesboro to Joe and Johnnie Stewart. He worked at the Jonesboro Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for 32 years. He pastored for eight years at Walnut Corner General Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Ollis Stewart, his three children; Tommy Stewart (Kathy), Jimmy Stewart (Rebekah), Vicky Collins (Kelly), and three grandchildren; Jonathan and Kathryn Stewart, and Stephine Gatlin.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Stewart and his sister, Ellen Persifull.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 21, 2012 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home. At 7:00 p.m. Rev. Marion Stringer will hold a brief service.
