John Mack "Skip" Rogers Jr.

June 1, 1951 — October 29, 2022

John Mack “Skip” Rogers Jr., 71, of Jonesboro entered his heavenly home on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born to the late John Mack Sr. and Bettye Rogers of Jonesboro on June 1, 1951.

Skip was a lifelong resident of Jonesboro and member of First Baptist Church. He was a 1969 Jonesboro High School graduate and then spent six years in the National Guard. He attended Arkansas State University. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad after many years of dedication and hard work. Skip was an avid hunter, fisherman, and master grill man who absolutely loved spending time outdoors. Skip enjoyed traveling with his family. Skip’s faith, knowledge, and kindness were the foundation of his family.  He will always be known for his great memory and storytelling.

In addition to his parents, Skip is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Claude and Cleo Pyland; and paternal grandparents, Byron Curtis Sr. and Metta Rogers.

Skip is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rhonda Rogers, of the home; two daughters, Lindsay Rogers-Lara and Jessica (Seth) Walls, both of Jonesboro; sister, Candy (Steve) Ballard of Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Cruz Tyson Lara and Avery Kate Walls; niece, Dr. Emily (Scott) Gairhan of Jonesboro; and great niece and nephew, Lily Grace Gairhan and Parker Gairhan. His family and grandchildren were the joy of his life.

A visitation will be from 5-7 pm Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Emerson Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 am Thursday, November 3, 2022 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Tad Rogers and Dr. Rodney Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery with active pallbearers being: Steve Ballard, Henry Cooksey, Scott Gairhan, Trey Rogers, Dr. Scot Snodgrass, and Travis Stone.

Honorary pallbearers will include: Charles Best, Don Browning, Mike Kee, Bill Rogers, Dale Weaver, Mike Weaver, and Pete Yarborough.

The family would like to thank the staff at NEA Baptist for their excellent care.
