John Robert Sanders, 80, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born to the late Henry and Myrtle Sanders on December 9, 1938 in Middleton, Tennessee. John graduated from Southside High School in 1956 and was an All Memphis Offensive Guard. He was a traveling salesman in his younger years before settling down in Jonesboro. John worked for OTASCO in Jonesboro as an automotive salesman for many years before ultimately finishing the last 15 years of his working career at Wal-Mart.
John was active for several years as a member of the Valley View Athletics’ Booster Club and coached several baseball teams throughout the years. In his free time John enjoyed playing golf, working in his yard, and helping his neighbors. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Sanders; and siblings, Jewel Pearson, Louise Green, Maxine Neri, and William “Pete” Sanders.
John is survived by his sons, Keith Sanders (Renee) and Kraig Sanders (Cathy) both of Little Rock; grandchildren, Zachary Sanders (Katie), Anna Sanders, Chloe Sanders, Jacob Sanders, and Eli Sanders John also leaves behind his great granddaughter, Scout Sanders.
The visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday starting at 1:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Emerson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Keller’s Chapel Cemetery with the active pallbearers being Zachary Sanders, Jacob Sanders, Eli Sanders, Robert Marshall, John Bell, and Marty Lamb. The honorary pallbearers will be Harold Lamb, Floyd Massey, Rick Turman, Joe Hall, Steve French, and Matt Vaughn.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
