John R. (Bob) Bishop

John R. (Bob) Bishop, 91, of Brookland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 8, 2019, at the NEA Baptist Hospital. John was born in Brookland on October 5, 1927, to the late Hallie and Minnie Martin Bishop. John lived in Brookland his entire life and was a member of the Pine Log United Methodist Church. John worked for General Electric as a machinist, loved gardening, his cat JJ, and was the first one to organize the little league Baseball in Brookland in 1962. He also worked on the Brookland fire Department.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

Survived by his wife, Doris Bishop of the home.

Son, Bobby Bishop, and Daughter, Dianne Rainwater (David) all of Brookland.

2 grandchildren, David Rainwater of Brookland and Jessica Austin (Joe) of Paragould.

5 great-grandchildren, Brock, Drew, Maddie, Meredith, and Ryan Austin.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2019, in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Rick Hathcoat officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Log Cemetery with Emerson Funeral home in charge.

Visitation will be from 1-2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Joe Austin, Brock Austin, Drew Austin, Mike Bishop, Robin Bishop, and Kahlon Mays.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Rainwater, Billy Coggins, Jim Sanders, Bill McLaughlin, Deb Hathcoat, Ellis Ray Pinchback, Dustin Ellenburg. Kenny Ellenburg, Wayne Farley, Adam Farley, John David Bishop, Keith Gambill, Ryan Austin, Richard Bishop, Ronnie Bishop and the congregation of Pine Log Church.

Memorials may be made to the Pine Log Cemetery Association or to St. Jude, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 USA / donors@stjude.org .
