John Bennett “J.B.” Pierce, son of the late Reverend B. W. Pierce and Conna Pierce Townsend, passed away Monday evening at his home in Jonesboro. He was a former owner of J.B. Pierce Discount Carpet and J.B.’s Car Wash at Pine Bluff and Rison Furniture and Appliance at Rison. He was a member of the Rison First United Methodist Church, a fifty plus member of Culpepper Masonic Lodge, Union Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and the American Legion. He was past president of the Cotton Pickers Camping Club of Pine Bluff, a past president of the Arkansas Silver Crown Retirees, and served in the army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Yaney Pierce, and a son Dr. Joseph Pierce and his wife Wanda, Jonesboro; one daughter Sherri Lynn and her husband, Andrew Luttrell, Marion; one sister, Martha Owens, Lubbock, Texas; two brothers, William Coburn Pierce and his wife Rita, Fairhope, Alabama; Jesse Winston Pierce, Flagstaff, Arizona; one grandson, John Bennett Pierce, II, Jonesboro; three granddaughters, Deborah and her husband Jason Cook, Miami, Florida; Olivia Anne and Margaret Lynn Luttrell, Marion; one great granddaughter, Jaden Sloan Pierce, Jonesboro; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Rison First United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 2, 2006, at 3:30 p.m. with Reverend Don Johnson presiding. The family will receive visitors, friends, and family immediately following the service.
