John Marcus Metzler, 59, of Jonesboro, died Monday, October 19, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born in Jonesboro, John lived all of his life in Jonesboro and Calico Rock. For several years he operated Metzler’s White River Resort in Calico Rock and was an avid trout fisherman. John earned a Master Degree from Arkansas State University and worked as a behavior health counselor for several years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro.
He was a 1968 graduate of Jonesboro High School where he was a varsity basketball player and recipient of an award from the National Science Foundation. John was an Eagle Scout and served as a Page in Washington, DC for Congressman E.C. “Took” Gathings. He was preceded in death by his parents: Henry Fredrick Metzler, Jr. and Mary Jean Burrow Metzler; one brother: Henry Fredrick Metzler, III; and his grandmother: Jesse Burrow.
Survivors include 2 brothers: James Michael Metzler of Jonesboro, and Steven Robert Metzler of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and
1 sister: Susan Marine Metzler of Jonesboro.
Visitation will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro. Following visitation, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 at the church with Rev. John Miles officiating. Private burial will be in Kellers Chapel Cemetery.
