John Louis Kerst

October 5, 1959 — March 12, 2014

John Louis Kerst, 54, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at his home of natural causes.

John was born in Cherry Point, North Carolina and lived in California before moving to Jonesboro in 1974. He was a 1976 graduate of Nettleton High School and earned a  Bachelors degree in Radio-TV and a Masters degree in Communications from Arkansas State University.

John served on the staff of the Saudi Customs Project during his post-graduate work at ASU. He worked as Chief Engineer for the advertising dept of Ogilivy &Mather in New York from 1985-1996, and toured with Ann-Margret as her stage manager. John returned to ASU in 1997, and served in the Alumni Relations office.

John was a member of Nettleton Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Al Kerst.

Survivors include his mother, Jean Varner Kerst of Greer's Ferry;

1 brother, Paul (& Cecilia) Kerst of Conway; and

2 sisters, Becky Kerst of Cleburne, Texas and Judy (& Jerry) Foster of San Andreas, California.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Harold Ray officiating.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in Emerson Chapel.

A graveside committal service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Crossroads Cemetery near Greer's Ferry with Rev. Doug Inzer officiating.
