John Walter Johnson

John Walter Johnson, resident of Jonesboro, AR, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro on September 15, 2023. He was born in Emmett, ID on March 2, 1949 to the late Walter and Joyce Johnson. John grew up in Southern and Northern California respectively, in a proud military family. In June of 1968, he was a graduated of Nathaniel A. Narbonne High School in Los Angeles, California. After high school, he joined the forestry service which followed him being drafted into the US Army in 1970, to which he served 13 years for his country. In his time in the military, he was stationed in Korea, Germany, Presidio, CA and Fort Sill, OK. After his military service he went on to provide security services for the USPS. On January 12, 1980, he married his wife Irma Johnson. He was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, where he served as president. His hobbies were listening to audio books and participating in black powder rendezvous events. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Irma Johnson; son, Jon Johnson; stepson, Bobby (Holly) Wright; stepdaughter, Becky Berry; grandchildren, Heather, Michael and Sasha; sister, Linda Barfield and brother, Ken Johnson. No services will be held upon his request, but all are welcome to visit his gravesite at the Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery at Birdeye.
