John H. Heern, 90, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday afternoon at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was retired from Frolic Footwear and was an Army Veteran having served in World War II. Mr. Heern had spent his entire life in the Jonesboro area. He was a member of the Nettleton Church of Christ. He had served on the church board in the past and liked to hunt and fish a bit. Mr. Heern was a good-hearted, strong-willed man who liked helping others.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Nora Geneva Heern; a granddaughter, Pamela Kay South; his parents, John & Teresa Prediger Heern; his sisters, Addie Scarbrough and Helen Phillips; and his brother, Herbert Heern.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, John C & Daphene Heern and Teresa P. & William D. Young, all of Jonesboro; his brother, Glen Heern, Jonesboro; his grandchildren, Emily & Nick Devereux, Courtney & Justin Batten, Johnna Heern, John Clay Heern, Amanda Maria & Jason Bishop, James Todd & Shelley Hinton; great-grandchildren, Jacie Mackenzie Batten, Kandice & Josh Smith, Jesse Bishop, James Ingle, Bethney Ingle, Andrew Blake Hinton; and his great-great-grandchildren, Sebastain Smith and Brandon Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jimmy Young officiating. Burial will follow at Strawfloor Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Dennis Gregory, Gordon Harrison, Jerry Dodson, Coy London, Mark Morrow, and Jackie Leonard.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and the deacons from Nettleton Church of Christ.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
