John Gaylon Coleman, 87, of Jonesboro, formerly of Slidell, Louisiana passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born June 8, 1937 in Hornbeak, Tennessee to the late Wade and Zobeida Coleman. John retired from Lockheed Martin. He was a member of Washington Ave. Church of Christ and a former member of Apple Hill Church of Christ. John started farming after retirement, raising cattle. He enjoyed wood working, gardening and helping others. John and Robbie would make cookies and give them out to people at church and others. After Robbie passed, John continued making cookies.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife Robbie Coleman; son, Steve Coleman and a brother, Clarence “Butch” Coleman.
Survivors include 2 sons, Ronnie (Carol) Coleman Sr., Terry (Bobbie) Coleman; daughter-in-law, Kathy Coleman (wife of the late Steve); brother, Jerry (Pat) Coleman; 2 sisters, Barbara Curtner, Nancy (Duane) Whitfield; sister-in-law, Olivia Coleman (wife of the late Butch); 8 grandchildren: Michael Coleman, Amber (Danny) Smith, Eric (Kimberly) Coleman, Ronnie Coleman Jr., Matthew (Robyn) Coleman, Danielle (Johnathon) Whalen, Jason Coleman, Tyler Coleman and 8 great- grandchildren.
Funeral service will be Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Aaron Dodson officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
