John Edward (Ed) Troutt, 51, formerly of Jonesboro, died Monday at his home in Slidell, Louisiana after a battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Jonesboro, son of Greta and John Troutt Jr. He was a graduate of Jonesboro High School and Arkansas State University.
Ed played football one year for the University of Arkansas and three years for Arkansas State University, where after completing his final season, he was named an all-Southland Conference center and selected as an Associated Press third team All-American.
After graduation, he joined other members of his family in operation of The Jonesboro Sun and was assistant publisher when the newspaper was sold by the Troutt family. Later, he was associated with his brother, Bob in the development of Sage Meadows in Jonesboro and Bobcat Trail at North Port, Florida. He had lived in south Louisiana for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Marie Troutt of Slidell; three children, Aria Backe of San Francisco, California, Mitchell Troutt of Fayetteville and Jacob Trout of Little Rock; and his parents and brother of Jonesboro.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. John Miles officiating. There will be no visitation.
