John Edward Duffel

August 10, 1941 — January 4, 2021

John Edward Duffel, 79, of Jonesboro, passed from this life Monday, January 4, 2021, at his home. He was born August 10, 1941 to the late Rev. Henry Duffel and Freda Landrum. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his wife, Carol Duffel; son, Kelly Duffel; grandson, Kyle Gipson; brothers Charles Duffel and Gary Duffel; and sister Jayne Calvin.

John was born in Rector, but spent 57 years living in Jonesboro. He was a member of both the Loyal Order of Moose and Fraternal Order of Eagles. John was an avid knife and coin collector. He loved telling stories and was someone who never met a stranger. John enjoyed sports including softball and fishing, but he was especially fond of boxing, whether it be coaching or watching. Most importantly, John loved spending time with his family.

John is survived by his daughters, Misty Baker (Charlie) of Jonesboro and Brooke Gross (Wes) of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Scott Gipson, Kassie Evans, Whitney Harrison (Hunter), Dylan Gregg, Olyvia Utnage, Shelby Hall, and Cooper Gross; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Emerson Funeral Home, January 9, 2021 at 3pm. A visitation will precede the service from 2pm to 3pm.

A facemask must be worn while at the visitation and service.
