John Ricky Dacus, 68, of Bay, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022, at his home of natural causes.
Born in Jonesboro, John grew up in Jonesboro and attended Jonesboro Public Schools until enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served three years of active duty and was stationed in Korea most of his service time. John was a licensed private pilot prior to entry into the service and following his honorable discharge became a licensed commercial pilot and Certified Flight Instructor. After working as a commercial pilot flying mail and other freight, he most enjoyed his work as a crop duster/agriculture pilot. John owned and operated an agricultural flying service in Cash and also worked as an agricultural pilot for other services in Arkansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee, and North Carolina. He also worked during off season as a truck driver. After retirement he moved to Bay four years ago.
John was of the Church of Christ faith and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing on television and thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sports games and activities. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Dacus.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Gremard Dacus of the home;
3 children and their spouses: Jon and Brandi Dacus and Rachel and Max Liles, all of Jonesboro, and William Christopher Dacus of Bay;
His mother, Sarah Mays Dacus of Jonesboro;
1 brother, Steve Dacus of Jonesboro; and
5 grandchildren: Ashlynn Dacus, Chance Liles, Jaden Dacus, Jackson Liles and Carol Dacus.
A memorial service will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday at Washington Avenue Church of Christ.
Burial will be private. The family will receive friends prior to and following the memorial service at the church.
