John Allen Bishop

March 22, 1933 — May 7, 2024

John Allen Bishop, a cherished member of the Jonesboro community, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at St. Bernards Medical Center. Born to the late John A. and Naomi Bishop in Steele, Missouri, on March 22, 1933, John called Jonesboro home since 1956, having moved from Campbell, Missouri, where he completed his high school education.

A faithful member of the Southwest Church of Christ, John's life was marked by service and dedication. Following a brief stint at the University of Missouri, he answered the nation's call and served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, committing four years to his country.

Upon settling in Jonesboro, John shared his passion for agriculture as a vocational agriculture teacher at Cash and Bono schools, later transitioning to become an agriculture loan officer at Citizens Bank. His deep affection for livestock was evident throughout his life, bringing him joy and fulfillment.

John is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Georgia Bishop. He is survived by his loving daughters, Betty and Mary Bishop, both of Jonesboro; his brother, Tom (Carol) Bishop of Jonesboro; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation to celebrate John's life will be held from 5-6 pm on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Emerson Funeral Home. It will be a time for friends and family to gather, sharing memories and finding solace in each other's company.

While John's physical presence may be gone, his legacy of love, dedication, and service will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those he touched.
