Joel Smith

Joel Edward Smith, 61, of Jonesboro passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018. He was born August 12, 1957 in Jonesboro to Jean Thomas Smith Goforth and the late Donald Smith. Joel was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and became a Christian at age 13.

Joel worked as a cable manager, a maintenance supervisor, and at World Color. God blessed Joel with a beautiful tenor voice and he loved to sing. He was in the Hurricane Choir, the Camerata Singers and the Barbershop Quartet as well as the band at Jonesboro High School. After high school he was in a gospel group for a few years. Joel loved hunting, fishing, and grilling no matter the weather. He enjoyed NASCAR with Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the St. Louis Cardinals.

In addition to his father, Joel was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Don Smith; grandparents, Jess and Maude Thomas and Alex and Zina Smith.

He will be lovingly missed by his mother, survivors include his son, Logan McCarthy; sisters, Cari Smith Formon, Ana Smith; two uncles, Harvey (Mary) Thomas, Carroll (Edna) Thomas; three nieces, Mika (Steven) Pelham of Paragould, Laura Trotter of Jonesboro and Holly (Tyler) Williams of Black Rock; three great nieces and one great nephew along with numerous other family and friends.
