Joe Jeffers Holt

Joe Jeffers Holt, 76, of Bay died Saturday in Bay, Arkansas. Born at Davis Spur Crossing, near Bay, Joe was the son of Troy Elmer Holt and Hattie (Spurlock) Holt. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War. Joe was a retired farmer, high school math teacher and administrator. He taught in the Bay, Lake City, Jonesboro (Annie Camp), Trumann, Valley View School District and served as Principal of Grubbs High School. He was a graduate of both Arkansas State University and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He served on the Craighead County Quorum Court for thirteen years representing District #13 and was the Little Bay Ditch District Drainage Commissioner. Mr. Holt was a long time member and Deacon of Broadway Avenue Missionary Baptist Church and an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by is daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Kevin McMasters of Bay; granddaughter, Hayley Morgan Overbay of Jonesboro; son-in-law, C. H. Overbay, of Jonesboro; Sisters, Nina Morrison of Bay, Betty Sue McInturff and Isbella Thompson of California.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Willean Elkins Holt in 2004; a daughter Valerie Jo Holt Overbay in 1997; his parents, a brother, Rex Holt Sr., and sisters, Jeanette Arnold and Daphane Holland.

Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 10:00 in Emerson Memorial chapel with Rex Holt Jr. and Michael Willard officiating. Mickey Bridger and Ronald Skaggs will deliver eulogies’. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Michael Ashlock, Brandy Scott, Brett Scott, Kerry Hall, Kevin Hall and Steve Hall.

Honorary Pallbearers will include Angie and Herbert Rudder, Buck Barnhill, Allen Rogers, Butch Rogers, nieces and nephews and the Adult Sunday School Class at Broadway Avenue Missionary Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5 – 7 at Emerson Funeral Home.
