Joanne Onstead

Family caretaker, and life long garden enthusiast, Joanne Onstead of Bay, Arkansas passed from this world on October 17th 2021 at the age of 83. After a long battle with a range of health conditions, she passed peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones.  Although her body failed her, her wit and caring nature never did.  JoAnne was born in Craighead County on March 11th, 1938. She married James Onstead on December 26th 1959. In 1973, Joanne and James returned to Bay, AR by way of Chicago, IL where they would both remain for the rest of their years.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, James Onstead; parents, P.W. & Grace Vestal; son, Hal Onstead; four brothers John Vestal, Wallace Vestal, Billy Vestal, and Charles Vestal and one sister, Donna Wells.

She is Survived by her two brothers, Jerry (Susan) Vestal & Berry (Beverly) Vestal; her daughter, Sherrie Leavell; Her Daughter-in-law, Patricia Onstead; grandchildren, Amber (Ricky) Stevens, James (Heaven) Onstead, James (Sharlotte) Leavell, Samantha Leavell, and Karen Leavell along with three great grandchildren Kaley Stevens, Slayden Onstead, and Sloane Onstead.

Visitation will be held Wednesday October 20th from 1-2 p.m at Emerson Funeral Home.

Services to be held directly after with Pastor Jimmy Pagan officiating. Burial will be at Pine Log Cemetery.
