Joann Evelyn Bowie, a beloved singer, devoted Bible school teacher, and cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at Green Acres Nursing Home in Paragould, Arkansas, on April 12, 2025, at the age of 87. Born September 18, 1937, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Joyce and Joan Voas. Joann lived a life rich in faith, family, and creativity.
Her deep faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she found immense joy in serving as a Sunday School teacher at New Antioch Baptist Church in Brookland. Beyond her spiritual dedication, Joann possessed a vibrant spirit, finding solace and inspiration in painting, quilting, gardening, reading, and, most especially, singing. These passions, along with the unwavering love she had for her family, defined her character.
Joann's legacy extends through her loving family. She is survived by her children, Chuck (Beverly) Bowie of Paragould, Joyce Bowie of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Cheryl Bowie Hamm of Paragould; her grandchildren, Michael (Pam) Hamm of Denver, Colorado, Jonathan Hamm of Ithaca, New York, and Natalie Bowie of St. Petersburg, Florida; her two step-grandchildren, Felice Ferris and Jason Ferris; her great-grandchildren, Alex Hamm and Hea-Jin Hamm; and four step-great-grandchildren. The love and laughter she shared with them will forever be treasured.
A service celebrating Joann’s life and burial at Mt. Zion Cemetery will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association at https://www.alz.org/tn in her memory.
Joann’s gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and boundless love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and devotion that will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
