Frances “Joan” Wallis, 82, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born to the late Coley and Vera Rogers on October 25, 1940 in Craighead County. Joan was a member of Valley View Church of Christ and has taught bible classes in the past. She served as a 4-H leader in the community, was a professional seamstress, specializing in clothes and quilts, and worked on the family farm for 35 years. She also retired from Walmart after working there for 25 years.
Joan was a caretaker at heart, having taken care of several family members throughout the years and caring for her grandchildren, who called her Granny. She deeply loved her family and instilled in them the importance of education, morals, values, a strong work ethic and qualities necessary to succeed in life. Joan enjoyed puzzles, old TV shows and movies (Gunsmoke), and spending time with her family. She also loved animals, especially her dogs and cats, that she cherished all through the years.
In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Jewel Benton (JB) Wallis; and brother, Jimmy Rogers.
Joan is survived by her children, Vera Kaye Leath (Steve) of Jonesboro, Jewel Dale Wallis (Kim) of Lake Cormorant, Mississippi, Karen Joan Curtner (Barry) of Jonesboro, and James Edward Wallis (Melissa) of Indianapolis, Indiana; twin sister, Jane Hudson of Batesville; grandchildren, Jennica Perkins (Kris), Andrew Leath (Kylee), Matthew Wallis (Amber) Justin Curtner (Erin), Weston Curtner (Autumn), Lincoln Wallis (Tiffany), Landon Wallis (Nicole), and Katelyn Coburn (Brant); great grandchildren, Jackson Perkins, Jordan Perkins, Benton Leath, Myatt Leath, Archie Leath, Benton Wallis, Baylor Wallis, Olivia Exum Curtner, Stella Curtner, and Sophie Coburn. She also leaves behind a host of other family and friends.
The visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
The service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Emerson Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Cremeens officiating. Burial will follow at Old Enterprise Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.
