Joan Mahon

Joan Mahon, 81, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at NEA Baptist Hospital.  She lived most of her live here in Jonesboro.  She was born in Weiner to George and Elizabeth Shipp on October 5, 1940. She was of the Christian belief.  Her family was always an important part in her life.  She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed all Razorback sporting events and St. Louis Cardinal Baseball.  Joan enjoyed bowling and was very proficient at the sport.  She was a nurse by trade, and the first woman to ever be allowed to wear pants as a St. Bernards employee. This was only after being inspected and given permission from the nuns of Holy Angels Convent.  Joan never met a stray or a cat she didn’t love. She enjoyed giving people Chex Mix as a thank you gift.  That was her way of loving people and thanking others for their kindness.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Larry Mahon, her parents, and her brothers, Carnett Shipp, Carnell Shipp, Clifford Shipp and one sister, Betty Summerill.

Survivors include sons, Jeffrey Mahon and Kris of Dallas, Texas; Vince Mahon of Lonoke; Daughters, Paula Carter, Joni Burks and Mia Bailey and husband David, all of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Jordan Bailey, Terri Moore, Bryan Bailey, Cidney Jumper, Dalton Burks, Jacob Jumper, Ashleigh Carter, Macey Weese, Jayd Carter, Tyler Mahon, Haley Mahon Wilson, and Logan Mahon; and 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
