Joan Carter

Joan Carter, 75, of Jonesboro, died Friday, November 27, 2009, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro.

Born in Calico Rock, Joan lived most of her life in Jonesboro. She was a homemaker and a member of Nettleton Baptist Church where she was a member of the Sonshine Sunday school class and a former Sunday school teacher.

Joan had two books of poetry published and was a benefactor of endowed educational scholarships, one through Williams Baptist College. She was preceded in death by her parents: Amos and Gladys McSpadden Staggs; by a brother: Billy Staggs; and by
4 sisters: Mary Lee Manis, Reba Hook, Madge Andrews and Janette Rutherford.

Survivors include her husband Jim Carter of the home;

2 daughters: Karen Jean Carter and Sherry LeAnn Carter, both of Jonesboro;

Her twin sister Jean Staggs of Jonesboro;

2 nieces who lived with Joan and Jim while growing up: Renee Rutherford and Teresa Rutherford Stepp; and

Several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:00 at Nettleton Baptist Church with Dr. Stan Ballard and Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers include: Mike Hook, Casey Hook, Jeff Harlan, Bobby Warren, Zack Walker and Howard Smith.

Honorary pallbearers include members of the Sonshine Sunday school class.

Visitation will be held Monday morning, 9:00-10:00, at Nettleton Baptist Church, prior to the service.
