Jim Johnson, 89, of Jonesboro left this walk of life on Friday, March 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends, and woke up in Heaven in the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born in Earle, Arkansas, on July 28, 1936, to Hansel and Ola (Lammers) Johnson. While he only had a second-grade education and not a lot of book learning, he was one of the smartest men we knew, having Bible and life learning. He was a dedicated member and Sunday School Superintendent for over 60 years at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Jonesboro. His life’s work as a housing contractor led to building some of the most beautiful pieces of furniture in his “retirement” years. He didn’t call it work; he just called it “piddling”. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Johnson and Dillard Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Johnson; daughter, Sandi Johnson both of Jonesboro; son, Michael (Kristen) Johnson of Fort Smith; three sisters, Ruby Blake, Louise Dacus and Jeanne (Randy) Hansen, all of Jonesboro; one brother, Tommy (Penny) Johnson of Jonesboro and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be 10:00 Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Byron Griffey and Hershel Conley officiating. Burial will follow at McDaniel Cemetery with Jamie Seaborn, Andy Caruthers, Phillip Gay, Gary Holder, Chris Pfeifer and Leroy McQuay serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. David Lewis, Randall Pierce, Jeff Chaplain, Kirk Pfeifer, Darrel Sharp and Chad Gilbert. Visitation will be on Tuesday night from 5:00 until 7:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel.
