Jill Regina Acre

February 24, 1954 — November 10, 2009

Jill Acre, 55, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday afternoon in Memphis, Tennessee. She was born in Pocahontas but had lived in Jonesboro for the past 25 years. Jill was a retired elementary teacher from Nettleton Public Schools. Her teaching career reached far beyond just a single school district. She was on staff at Sylvan Learning and taught classes for the elementary education department at Arkansas State University. Over the years, she had led and taught many staff development sessions for teachers across the state. Through her work as an educator, she touched the lives of a countless number of children.

Jill was a very active member of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. She was also a member of a special group of ladies known as the Coffee Ladies. They had lunch every Monday and coffee every Wednesday. Over the years she regularly attended the Imperial Dinner Theater in Pocahontas.

She is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Curtiss Acre of the home; her son, Nicholas Acre, Quitman; daughters and son-in-law, Amanda Reed & Bobby Gimlin, Gatewood, Missouri, Lacee Acre, Jonesboro; two grandsons, Gage Acre and Troy Gimlin; a special aunt, Pat McCollum; many other family members, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Regina Hancock McCollum and her brother, David McCollum.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro with Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating. Burial will be Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Copper Springs Cemetery in Guy, Arkansas. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Billy Holland, Danny Haney, J.B. Howland, James Dunivan, Mike Fletcher, Rick Carter, and John Borden.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Delta Zeta Sorority from UCA.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Imperial Dinner Theater, 1401 Hwy 304 East, Pocahontas, Arkansas, 72455 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro.
