Jewell Francis

Jewell Francis, 91, of Jonesboro died Tuesday morning at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. She had lived in Jonesboro since 1972 moving here from Trumann. While in Trumann she was owner/operator of Francis Grocery for 35 years.

Mrs. Francis was a member of Central Baptist Church. While she was living at Craighead Nursing Center, she collected coins in a jar to go toward the building of the new Central Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewitt and Myrtle Spann Garrett; a son, Leon Francis; 2 brothers, Asa Garrett and Lester Garrett; 2 sisters, Betty Garrett and Thelma Garrett; and a granddaughter, Teresa Francis.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Julia Ann & Murray Elton, Jonesboro; her son and daughter-in-law, E. Woody & Carol Francis, Westlake Village, California: and her brother, Don Garrett, Chicago, Illinois. She also had 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Larry Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Brian Francis, Brent Hendrix, Scott Hendrix, Norman Francis, Jr., Michael Francis, and Bill Francis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Pavlicek, Naomi Schaffer, Nikki Brown, Bob Beyer, and Carroll Anderson.

Visitation will be Wednesday night from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
