Jewel Barnes, 90, of Bay, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 15, 2010. She was born in Jonesboro and lived most of her life in Bay. She was a faithful member of the Bay First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and retired cafeteria worker with Bay Public Schools. She was known by many as Granny Barnes. She loved her family, her church, and the St. Louis Cardinals.
She leaves behind her children, Jerry Wayne & Linda Barnes, Bay, Shirley & Carroll Hundley, Jonesboro; 5 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie David & Ethel Bowen; 3 husbands, Elton Barnes, the father of her children, Ervin Ferguson, Boots Nichols; and her sister, Allene Mann.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Bay First Baptist Church with Danny Taylor and Bill Passmore officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Scott Barnes, David Hundley, Daniel Hundley, Jon Hampton, Mark Brand, Chad Colbert, and Rick Scott.
Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Bay First Baptist Church.
