Jessie Freeman McFarland, Jr., 74, of Jonesboro. Died Saturday, May 14, 2022, at his home. He was born in Tyronza on December 17, 1947, to Jessie Freeman McFarland Sr. and Annie Lott McFarland. He has lived in Jonesboro since 1992, moving here from Memphis. He was a member and a deacon for Anointed Praise Outreach. Driving was his profession and his passion. He drove many charter tours around the country. His last job before retirement was driving a Jets Bus. Many say Jessie was easy going and mild mannered. When it came to hobbies, he had a great sense of humor and could beat just about anybody at a game of checkers. He loved creating BBQ masterpieces and spending time with family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Kay Williams.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley McFarland of the home; son, Nicholas McFarland and wife Latasha of Jonesboro; daughters, LaQuita Wilson of Memphis and Latambra Street of Jonesboro; sisters, Renna Allen and husband Edward, and Lenora Alexander and husband Larry, all of Jonesboro; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Evangelist Nicholas McFarland officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Cherry Bean Cemetery near Tyronza with Dominick McFarland, Kenneth Braxton, Anwar Jamerson, Ben Williams, Edward LeVar Allen, Lawrence Wilson, Charles Wilson and Willis Alexander serving as pallbearers.
