Jerry Wayne Milligan Sr., 69, of Lake City passed from this life on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at his home. He was born to the late Lones and Lorene Milligan on July 12, 1949 in Jonesboro. Jerry served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and he was a member of Refuge General Baptist Church in Lake City. Jerry was very good with his hands; he was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed to rebuild old cars and trucks. He loved to go deer hunting and spending time at the lake with his family. Other than God, family was the most important aspect to Jerry’s life. Jerry loved his family very much, but he was especially proud of his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his brothers, Bernard Milligan and Don Eliott Milligan.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brenda Ridge Milligan; sons, Jerry Wayne Milligan Jr. (Tina), Jon Milligan (Sara), and Justin Milligan (Marie); daughters, Ella Bradsher (Zach) and Mari Ann McGaughey (Heath); brother, Major Milligan; sisters, Ruth Reece and Joy Rapert; grandchildren, Amanda, Jenna, Natalie, Peyton, Caleb, Jon Marshall, Hattie, Noah, Gavin, Ryan, Secret, Haley, Justin, Regan, Jett, Jasmine, and Jaxen; and great grandson, Graceon Wayne. Jerry also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Emerson Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Emerson Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Hinkle and Jake Gilley officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Log Cemetery with the active pallbearers being Donnie Owens, Donnie Mize, Larry Smith, Thomas Howard, Larry Netterville, and Luke Smith. The honorary pallbearers are Danny McFarland, Darrel Barnes, Pat Bader, William Tyler, Ed Winford, Donnie Peaster, Donald Hood, and Winred Saffell.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
