Jerry W. McKelroy, 71, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at NEA Baptist Hospital. He had lived in Jonesboro for the past 33 years, moving here from Jackson, Tennessee. He was a member of the First Methodist Church here in Jonesboro. Jerry was very involved in our community. He was the past president of the Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Economic Development for Jonesboro; plant manager of Kenney Manufacturing, Production manager for Coors in Weiner and the manager for the Center of Economic Development for Arkansas State University. Jerry was also a founding member of the Industrial Workforce Training Consortium. He served his country as a 1st Lt. in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He owned McKelroy Custom Homes.
Jerry loved spending time with his family. He had a love for life, music and his pets. He enjoyed movies, golfing and was an avid bowler. He was a supporter of the Arkansas State Red Wolves and the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Judy McKelroy, of the home; son, Jeremy McKelroy (Brittany); daughters, Jessica Reed (Beau); Jenny Beth McCallum (Nathan) all of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Maggie McKelroy, Ava McKelroy, Noah Reed, Reese McCallum and Noah McCallum.
Funeral services will be 1:00 Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend John Miles officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Gregg Goodner, Gary Hoggard, Tim McDaniel, Steve Williams, David Clark, David Minaldo, Louis Intres and Jared Cook serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Steven Lewis, Pat Coutrois and B. W. Johnson.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Jerry’s life on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 at the home of Jessica and Beau Reed, 2212 Auburn Dale Cove, Jonesboro, Arkansas 72404. Please come and share a time of fellowship with his family, friends, and members of the community he loved.
