Jerry Linnstaedter, 80, of Jonesboro slipped the surly bonds of earth on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born in Lindale, Texas on July 25, 1937 to the late Leroy and Bonnie Linnstaedter. Jerry retired from Arkansas State University in 2007 after 39 years of service and finished his career as Chair of the Math Department and was named Professor Emeritus upon retirement. He had many passions in his life but he really enjoyed collecting and playing church organs, reading history, and raising chickens. Jerry and his wife, Julie, are members of the Forest Home Church of the Nazarene. In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his brother, Henry Linnstaedter; and sisters, Sophia O’Neal and Drucilla Hall.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Julie Linnstaedter of the Home; daughters, Jean Layne (Donald) of Bryan, Texas, Joan Linnstaedter (Greg Slayton) of Paragould, and Jane Mims (Eric) of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Deborah Linnstaedter (Guy Ingram); and granddaughter, Alex Layne.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Forest Home Church of the Nazarene with Ken Stallings officiating. The family will receive guests following the service until 5:00 p.m. to visit, share stories, and laugh. The burial will be private.
As a first generation college graduate, Jerry had a life-long commitment to helping students from similar backgrounds. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations be made to ASU Foundation, Re: Jerry Linnstaedter IMPAC Scholarship, P.O. Box 1990, State University, Arkansas 72467 or Black River Technical College, Re: Paragould Site Scholarship, 1410 HWY 304 East, Pocahontas, Arkansas 72455.
