Jerry Wayne Gilbert, 78, of Jonesboro passed from this life Saturday, August 19, 2017 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on May 2, 1939 in Bay to the late Orvel and Dorothy Gilbert. Jerry lived the majority of his life in the Jonesboro and Bay area. He was a member of the Northside Church of Christ and God fearing man. Jerry served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was well respected around the community in regards to his electrical work and his all around character. He was a member of the IBEW, Local 1516, for 35 years. Jerry loved life and always had a smile on his face. If anyone ever needed anything Jerry was always there to lend a hand. Jerry was such a people person and would always have something positive to say about everyone. Most of all Jerry was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Janie Gilbert, of 56 years; one daughter: Jerri Jo Winters and her husband Chris Todd Winters of Jonesboro; two sisters: Faye “Tuffy” Oyler of Jonesboro and Billie J. Usher of Pensacola, Florida; and two grandchildren: Hunter Martin and Jacob Martin.

A visitation will be from 5-7 pm Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Emerson Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be at 10 am Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Mike Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with active pallbearers being: Mike Cushman, Richard Huff, Austin Oyler, Nick Oyler, Joey Walters, and Lane Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be: Quillon Vincent, Dillon Vincent, Carroll Hundley, Wade Martin, Ross Ward, and Phil Simmons.
