Jerry Wayne Cook, Sr., 86, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born on November 13, 1939, in Milligan Ridge, Arkansas, Jerry’s life was a testament to hard work, devotion, and quiet strength.
He grew up on a farm in northeast Arkansas, where he learned the value of perseverance and community. Jerry continued farming through the early part of his life, working the land until 1983. From 1984 to 1988, he worked for Barton’s Lumber Company in West Memphis before returning to Jonesboro, where he and his wife, Cheryl, owned and operated an insurance agency. After selling the agency, Jerry enjoyed a well-earned retirement, spending his days doing what he loved most — building, fixing, and creating.
A craftsman at heart, Jerry found joy in working on vehicles, renovating homes, and taking peaceful drives through the countryside to check on the crops each season. He also loved spending time in the Ozark hills, where he found both beauty and peace in nature.
Jerry was a man of deep faith. He and Cheryl were devoted members of Southwest Church of Christ in Jonesboro, and in later years, they shared daily Bible studies together at home.
Above all, Jerry was a family man. He cherished his wife of 63 years, Cheryl Kaye Cook, and their children, Leah Michelle “Missie” (and husband William Lee “Bill” Hicks) and Jerry Wayne Cook, Jr. (and wife Alyssa Maria Cook). He was the proud grandfather of Riley Kathryn Cook, Avery Elise Cook, and Bentley Douglas Cook.
Jerry will be remembered for his kindness, his easy smile, and the way he never met a stranger. His legacy is one of faith, love, and humble strength — a reminder of the beauty found in a simple, well-lived life.
