Jerry Barnes, 68, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at his home. He was born in Trumann to Gene and Leaverta Barnes on March 23, 1948. Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served three tours in Vietnam. He enjoyed working, being outdoors, restoring his 1968 Ford Mustang, Hunting and fishing, but he really enjoyed being with his family and watching his girls play sports. Jerry is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ollie and Clara Carroll; father, Gene Barnes; and son, Michael Barnes.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sandie Barnes of Bay; daughters, Vicki May (Brien) of Trumann and Becky Barnes of Trumann; mother, Leaverta Bynum of McKenzie, Tennessee; brother, Terry Barnes (Irma) of Memphis; half brother, Danny Martinez of McKenzie, Tennessee; half sisters, Mary Karas of New Mexico and Darlene Martinez of McKenzie, Tennessee; grandchildren, Keith Looney (Whitney), Kelsi Looney, Taylor May, and Jarrett May; and great grandchildren, Prezleigh Looney and Karsyn Looney.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Emerson Funeral Home with Michelle Morrison and Don Lewart officiating. Burial will follow at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at Birdeye with the active pallbearers being Russell Hall, Terry Hall, David Lopez, Jerry Baker, James Pulley, and Matt Addison. The honorary pallbearers will be Keith Looney, Taylor May, and Jarrett May.
The visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Emerson Funeral Home.
