Jerry Wayne Barnes

Jerry W. Barnes, 70, of Bay passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House with his family by his side.

Jerry was born in Jonesboro on October 31, 1945 to the late Elton and Jewel Bowen Barnes. He lived all his life in the Bay area. He was the Bay High School pitcher and MVP of the 1964 Baseball State Championship team. After graduating from Bay High School he attended Arkansas State University where he earned a Bachelor degree. Throughout his career he was a farmer, Chemical Salesman, and later became the Co-manager at Bay Gin where he retired. He was a volunteer coach for Bay Elementary basketball for 25 years, and he served several years on the Bay School Board. He was an active member of the Bay First Baptist Church where he sang in choir and served as the Church Trustee.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Barnes of Bay; son, Scott (Kristi) Barnes of Paragould; daughters, Laura (Jon) Hampton and Cara (Mark) Brand all of Bay; sister, Shirley (Carroll) Hundley of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Garrett Hampton, Madison Brand, Gunner Fultz, Bailey Fultz, Morgan Winningham, Bridgette Sain; two great grandchildren, Grant and Scarlet; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 10, 2016 at 10am at the Bay First Baptist Church in Bay with Danny Taylor officiating. Interment will directly follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with all services entrusted with Emerson Funeral Home. Forrest Grisham, Jerrod Grisham, Blake Lamberson, Jeremy Turman, Chris Ellis, and Brandon Nichols will be serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 4-6pm at the Bay First Baptist Church in Bay.
