Jean Barkley

Martha Jean Barkley, 72, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at NEA Baptist Medical Center. She was born October 12, 1952 in Jonesboro to the late Ellis and Katie Howle.

Jean has lived in Jonesboro all of her life. She was a devoted Christian and a member of Family Fellowship Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed crafting, sewing and cooking but her greatest joy was spending time with her children and “her boys”, who were her world. She put the care & comfort of her children, grandchildren, and husband ahead of her own needs without hesitation. To all who encountered her, Mom was a selfless & caring soul to be matched by few others.

In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Stone and a brother, Acey Howle.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Barkley of the home; son, Michael (Jessica) Barkley of Jonesboro; daughter, Natalie (Jamie) Davis of Brookland; sisters, Ann (Jim) Martin of Jonesboro and Bettie (Wayne) Wilson of Jonesboro as well as grandchildren, Ethan (Katie) Barkley of Jonesboro and Colin Barkley of Jonesboro.

Funeral service will be Friday, May 30, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Ferrel Duffel officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Log Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
