J.D. “Stormy” Salmons, 83, of Jonesboro passed from this life Saturday, July 4, 2020 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born November 6, 1936 in Valley View to the late W.D. “Doss” and Mary Alice Salmons.
J.D. was a 1954 graduate of Valley View High School. He served in the Arkansas National Guard for 16 years and was an E7. In 1957 he was sent to Little Rock when the National Guard was ordered to “Preserve the Peace” during school desegregation of Central High. J.D. was an elder for over 50 years at Christian Valley Christian Church. After retiring from farming, he worked for Engines Inc. for several years.
J.D. was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, and a charter member of the Beech Creek Deer Hunting Club. J.D. also served on the Craighead Electric Board of Directors for 40 years. He was a charter member of the Valley View Ruritan Club and served on the Valley View Rural Water Board.
In addition to his parents, J.D. was preceded in death by his infant sister, Martha Sue Salmons and son-in-law, Greg Moody.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Inez Salmons of the home; son, Stan Salmons of Williford and daughter, Sherry Moody of Jonesboro.
Graveside service will be Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at McDaniel Cemetery under the Pavilion (5204 Mount Carmel Road, Jonesboro, AR 72404), with Bro. Mitch Ford officiating. Active pallbearers will be Jay Yarbrough, Cody Parish, Nathan Turney, Anthony Bracy, Donnie Hauge and James Grissom. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Turney, Doyle “Pete” Yarbrough, Terry Presley, Stacy Miser, Jerry Don Clark, Ken Yarbrough, Gary Hicks, Brian Duncan and Bradley Hauge.
For lasting memorials the family asks that consideration be given to Christian Valley Christian Church building fund, 2016 Valley View Drive, Jonesboro, AR 72404 or McDaniel Cemetery, 230 CR 415 Jonesboro, AR 72404.
The family also wants to give a special thanks to the employees of St. Bernard’s Villa, where J.D. lived the past two years. He had a good life there.
