Ishmael "JD" Cox, 83, of Paragould, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born on June 17, 1941, in Bay, Arkansas, at the family home to the late Ishmael and Elsie Cox.
A skilled carpenter by trade, JD was known for his dedication to his craft and his love for simple pleasures. He had a deep appreciation for old country music and could often be found tuning in to 95.9 The Wolf. A devoted basketball fan, JD eagerly followed the NBA and NCAA, never missing a game during March Madness.
In addition to his parents, JD was preceded in death by his son, Mark Cox; his sisters, Peggy Langston and Linda Touchstone; and his brother, Larry Cox.
JD leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his devoted wife of over 60 years, Panzy Cox of Paragould; his sons, Audie Cox (Rhonda) of Paragould and Phillip Cox of Paragould; his brothers, Wicky Cox of Trumann, Waymon Cox of Jonesboro, and Danny Cox of Conway; his sisters, Sue Henry of Jonesboro and Joyce Darling of Bay; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild soon to arrive.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate JD’s life at a visitation on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home.
JD will be remembered for his warm heart, love for his family, and the joy he found in the little things in life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
