Jay P. Chism

July 18, 1929 — December 27, 2010

Jay P. Chism, 81, of Jonesboro, died Monday December 27, at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was born in Earle, Arkansas and had lived in Jonesboro since 1979, moving here from Forrest City, Arkansas. He was a retired truck driver for Jones Truck Lines and was a U.S. Navy Korean veteran. He was a member of the Grace Missionary Baptist Church, Senior Class of Grace Missionary Baptist Church, American Legion Post # 21, Nettleton Lions Club and the Gideon’s International. He also married the love of his life on September 4, 1954.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Thelma Calvert Chism and one brother, Millard Chism.

Survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Georgia Chism of the home.
Four sons, Thomas J. Chism (Vivian) of Jonesboro, John Paul Chism (Tina) of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Phillip Chism of Springdale, Arkansas and Jimmy Chism (Stacey) of Paragould, Arkansas.

One daughter, Janice Bradford (Charles) of Jonesboro.

One sister, Maxine Thompson of Corinth, Texas.

15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren plus two on the way.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday December 31, 2010 at Emerson Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Verlon Wood and Rev. Adrian Parker officiating. Burial will be at Philadelphia Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.

Active pallbearers will be Jeff Moody, Larry Catt, Boyce Bonham, Bryan Taylor, John Taylor, Paul Wallace and Louis Stadler.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gideon’s, Nettleton Lions Club, Senior Class of Grace Missionary Baptist Church, and the American Legion Post #21.

Visitation will be from 5-7:00 P.M. Thursday December 30 at Emerson Funeral Home.

Family requests that lasting memorials be made to the Gideon’s International or Grace Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund 3930 Aggie Road, Jonesboro, Arkansas 72401.
