Janet Elaine Payne

Janet Elaine Payne, 83, of Jonesboro, passed away Friday, July 17, 2015, at Jonesboro Health and Rehab Center.

Born in Champaign, Illinois, Janet lived over 40 years in the Long Beach area of California. She resided in Laguna Woods, California, before moving to Jonesboro last year. She was a Registered Nurse with 44 years of service and was of the Catholic faith.

Janet had many friends and thoroughly enjoyed entertaining and hosting guests, playing bingo and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents: Tyrone and Grace Virginia Stayton Chappelle; 2 sons: David Martin and Douglas Martin; a grandson, Jason Martin; and a brother, Sonny Menefee.

Survivors include 1 son: Rev. Don (Vicki) Martin of Jonesboro;
2 daughters: Sarah Martin of Los Angeles and Deborah (Ken) Besnia of Santa Rosa;
1 brother, Don (Patricia) Menefee of Milwaukee;
1 sister, Sharon Taylor of Denver;
7 grandchildren: Charity Locke, Bethany Miller, Rebekah Gassman, Jonathan Martin, Michael Trevino, Danielle Martin and Kellyann Martin;
8 great grandchildren; and
a special Yorkie companion, "Maggie."

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of South Caraway Road Baptist Church with Don Martin and Jonathan Martin officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will follow at the church following the memorial service.
