Jane Griffin Turney

Jane Griffin Turney, 68, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday evening, December 15, 2009, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro.

A native and life-long resident of Jonesboro, Jane was a 1959 graduate of Valley View High School. She was a banker for 32 years with Mercantile Bank and Union Planters Bank.

Jane was a member of Christian Valley Christian Church where she taught Sunday school, worked in Vacation Bible School, and was a member of the choir and Christian Women Fellowship. She was a member of the Valley View Extension Homemakers Club, the Fast Glass Corvette Club and the A.S.U. Indian-Red Wolf Club.

Jane dearly loved spending time with her three grandchildren and was preceded in death by her parents: Donald and Wilma Falls Griffin, 2 brothers: Charles Griffin and Don Griffin, and a brother-in-law: Melvin Hall.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Joe Turney of the home;

Daughter Natalie Turney of Jonesboro;

Son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Nathan and Jennifer Turney of Jonesboro;

3 sisters and their husbands: Anita and Doyle Yarbrough ,
Ollie Hall, and Inez and J.D. Salmons, all of Jonesboro;

2 sisters-in-law: Mollie Griffin of Beebe and Jean Griffin of Lonoke; and

3 grandchildren: Cameron Turney, Camille Turney and Griffin Turney.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Mitch Ford and Pat James officiating. Burial will follow in McDaniel Cemetery.

Active pallbearers include: Stan Salmons. Ken Yarbrough, Lomer Gene Turney, Anthony Bracy, Brent Griffin and Blake Griffin.

Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Ronald Blachly, Dr. D.V. Patel, members of the Valley View Class of 1959, the Fast Glass Corvette Club and co-workers and retirees of Mercantile and Union Planters Bank.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home.
