James Carl (J.C.) West, 90 of Jonesboro died Thursday evening January 3, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born on September 21, 1922 in Cash, Arkansas to Samuel and Myrtle West. He was a farmhand before joining the Army in 1945. He served in the Army during WWII for 4 years, before moving to Jonesboro.
J.C. went to work at the basket factory and that’s where he met and married his wonderful wife of 61 years, Edna Irene West. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, J.C. was preceded in death by his daughters, Mildred Grimes and Thelma Jean Hall; granddaughter, Frankie Rook; grandsons, James Brian West, Terry Dean Hall and Robert Floyd.
Survived by his four sons, Gary West (Sylvia), Larry West (Linda), Bobby Hall (Gail) and Waymon Hall (Linda) all of Jonesboro. Daughter, Joyce Goforth (Joe) of Jonesboro.
26 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 14 great - great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday January 7, 2013 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Glen Hurst officiating. Burial will be at Strawfloor Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
Visitation will be from 4-6:00 P.M. Sunday January 6, at Emerson Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Josh West, James West Jr., Billy Holland, Cannon Holland, Dale Hall and Michael Hall.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Darrell Ragland, Staff of St. Bernard’s Medical Center, St. Bernard’s Hospice and the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
Family requests that lasting memorial be made to the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House 1138 E. Matthews, Jonesboro, Arkansas 72401.
