James W. (Sonny) Roberts, 62, of Nettleton, died Saturday morning at his home of natural causes.
Born in Harrisburg, Sonny lived most of his life in the Nettleton community. He worked several years for Mid-America Manufacturing in Jonesboro before becoming disabled.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving 2 tours in Vietnam, and was a member of the Jonesboro Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1991. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lee Thomas Roberts, Sr., and Frances Buie Roberts; by a sister: Lona Roberts Swindle; and by a brother: Jessie Lee Roberts.
Survivors include:
1 Sister: Virginia Roberts Miller of Jonesboro;
3 Brothers: Cue Roberts, and
Raymond Roberts, both of San Antonio, Texas, and
Lee Thomas Roberts, Jr., of Jonesboro;
Edna Ova of Jonesboro, James’ loving companion; and
Missy, his pet—he loved both of them with all of his heart; and
Several nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces who loved their Uncle Sonny dearly.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro with Rev. Lee Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery north of Harrisburg.
Active pallbearers include: Jimmy Simino, Junior Qualls, James Roberts, Cathy Roberts, Chris Lytle, and Chuck Miller, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers include: Taylor Roberts, Chuckie Miller, III, Calvin Simino, Junior Roberts, LeRoy Green, Chuck Miller, Sr., and C.J. Lytle.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5-8 at Emerson Funeral Home.
The family wishes to extend Special Thanks to the nurses and aides of St. Bernards Hospice and Dr. Trent Lamb for the compassion and care given to Sonny.
