James LaVon Prince, 66 of Yoakum, Texas died Friday October 24, 2014 at a family residence in Jonesboro. He had lived in Yoakum since 1992, moving there from Delaware. He was born in Weiner and graduated from Brookland High School in 1966. While in this area he worked at DuPont and Walker Jack. James was a member of the College Church of Christ in Victoria, Texas where he was very active. He served in the US Marine Corp. for four years with tours of duty in Vietnam. He also served in the US Army National Guard 875th unit in Jonesboro. James loved spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Prince and sister, Wanda Colleen Prince Chapman.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, LaWanda Prince, of the home; sons, James L. Prince II of Yoakum, Texas; Nelson Jay Prince (Amy Callham) of Houston, Texas; mother, Alpha O Prince of Brookland; brothers, Charles H. Prince (Mary) of Brookland; Kevin L Prince (Victoria) of Bono; sister, Annette Payne (Dennis) Marmaduke; grandchildren, Nicholas Prince, James Prince III, Nataliegh Prince and Cheyenne Prince and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the Bono Church of Christ with Richard Akins and William Michael Hurley officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers and burial will be family and friends at Pine Log Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2 on Tuesday at the Bono Church of Christ. A memorial service in Victoria, Texas will be announced at a later date.
