James Mark Vaughn

December 6, 1959 — June 14, 2025

James Mark Vaughn, 65, departed from his earthly life Saturday, June 14th of 2025 at NEA Baptist hospital. Mark was a true family man. His greatest possessions on this earth were his wife, his children, his friends and family. Mark, known as “Tank” by his teammates, loved talking about his past time playing football at Jonesboro High School where he graduated from in 1978. One of his greatest accomplishments in life was receiving his private pilot license in 1980. He said there was nowhere more peaceful than flying his airplane in the sky alone. Mark was a walking encyclopedia of planes, tractors, engines, and anything war related. Mark loved Jesus and his church. He was an active member of Grace Point Church of Christ and loved his Pastors, Chase Almond and David Gibson. For the last 45 years of his life, Mark built racing engines for local racers in the community. Building on his passion for racing, he founded “Vaughn Racing Engines.” He was a drag racer in the 80’s but loved watching his son, Tyler, race sprint cars and drag cars over the years. He was the backbone of support for his son’s racing career. He was a devoted dog dad and loved his four dogs; Skipper, Yogi, Abbie and Mylie.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Nora Vaughn; son, Brian Reeves; and granddaughter, Marley Reeves.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gwen Vaughn of the home; son, Tyler (Megan) Vaughn of Jonesboro; daughters, Micah (Jason) Arnold of Brookland and Natalie (Evan) Dill of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Addie Arnold, Emery Arnold, Kellan Dill, and Mia Dill; brothers, Barry (Brenda) Vaughn of Bono and Steve (Christina) Vaughn of Little Rock; and his beloved dogs, Skipper, Yogi, Abbie, and Mylie.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Chase Almond and David Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Bono. Active pallbearers will be Steve Heath, Larry Addison, Mark Mouzy, Robert Norman, Lee Lane, Mark Hogan, Lester Wilson, and Jason Arnold. Honorary pallbearers include: Dr. Randall Carlton, Dr. Adam Woodruff, Dr. Mark Wright, Vonda Curtis, and the Jonesboro High School Class of 1978.

So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in Heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
