James “Jim” Vinson, 74, of Jonesboro passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House with his family by his side.
Jim was born on February 19, 1942 in Jonesboro to the late Fred and Ila Cook Vinson. He attended Valley View and Jonesboro Public schools after graduation he served our country with the Arkansas National Guard. He worked in the elevator industry for over 50 years, starting as a mechanic and working his way up through management. His years in the business took him overseas and allowed him to work throughout the United States, with many of those years being spent in Las Vegas. He retired from ThyssenKrupp Elevator.
Jim's hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing, and playing cards with his buddies. And he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He attended Mt. Carmel Methodist Church. Jim’s bigger than life stories and funny sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Anna Vinson of Jonesboro; daughter, Cindy Vinson of Denver, CO; sons, Derek (Amy) Vinson of Waco, TX and John Vinson of Jonesboro; sisters, Ann Estes of Jonesboro and Kathy (Lonnie) McNatt of Sherwood; grandchildren, Wyatt, Savannah, and Bella Vinson.
A memorial service will be Friday at 3pm in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Wayne Clark officiating. Burial will be private with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.
Honorary pallbearers are former co-workers from ThyssenKrupp Corp., Tucker Housley, Vannen Merrell, Bill “Cookie” Cook, Lomer Turney, and all his golf and card buddies.
Visitation will from 1:00pm until service time in the Emerson Memorial Chapel.
