James "Jim" L. Kimberling

June 10, 1947 — January 17, 2015

James “Jim” L. Kimberling, 67, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He graduated from Weiner High School in 1966 and attended the College of the Ozarks on a basketball scholarship. He entered the US Army in 1968 where he completed his basics in Fort Campbell, Kentucky and was stationed in Germany. James was awarded the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Expert Marksman Badge. Sgt. Kimberling was a Radio Control Operator and a Multi-Channel Transmission System Operator. He received his honorable discharge in April 1974. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, yard work, camping, and being outdoors. Time spent with family and friends was precious and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. James was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe Kimberling and Ethel Ward and a half-sister Deborah Lacy.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years Minnie Kimberling of the home; sons, Travis Kimberling; Adam Peek (Taryn); grandchildren, Emerson Kimberling, Grant Kimberling, Johnathan Peek, Maxwell Peek and a half-sister, Jane Brock.

Funeral services will be 10:00 Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Chris Harrell officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Balch-Johnston Cemetery, near Amagon, with Kenny James, Josh Neely, Rick Reeder, Javaine Furnatter, Paul Counts, Adam Oleson, Jim Hesse and Ernie Reeder serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Calkin, Wilson Lane, Roger Reeder and the Weiner Class of 1966. Visitation will be from 5-7 Tuesday night at Emerson Funeral Home.
