James "Jim" Roger Hammil

November 1, 1927 — August 7, 2013

James “Jim” Roger Hammil, age 85 of Jonesboro, died Wednesday at his home. Jim was born in Stuttgart to Paul Gregory and Mabel Vincent Hammil. Jim lived in Weiner where he was manager of Riceland Foods before coming to Jonesboro.
He enjoyed golf, tennis, fishing, hunting and flying. Jim loved his church family and God. He was a family man and a beloved grandpa to his grandchildren. Jim was a proud China Marine veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Euclid Lodge #130, Stuttgart. AR for over 50 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mabel Hammil; and sister, Lenora Mae Hodgsen; and favorite nephew, Vincent Hodgsen.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betty of the home; 1 son, James Roger Hammil, Jr., and wife Tanya of Clewiston, Florida; 2 daughters, Paula (Bobby) Smith of Jonesboro; Melanie (Larry) Mills of Harrisburg; 4 grandchildren, Zackary John Smith (Kelsey), Brittany Smith Morgan (Ashley), Christopher Robert Taylor (Whitney) and Brandon Hammil and 2 great grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 3:00 p.m in the chapel of First United Methodist Church, Jonesboro, with Rev. John Miles II officiating. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
