James Conley Grimes

James Conley Grimes, born August 17, 1943 to Conley Grimes and LouVetta Fowler Grimes passed this life peacefully on January 8th, 2026 at the age of 82, surrounded by his loving daughters.

James spent his life serving his community on the city council and serving multiple positions in the church. James was of the Methodist belief. James dedicated his life to his family and friends, and would go out of his way to provide anything needed. James retired from Smurfit Stone in 2006.

James was preceded in death by his first wife of 33 1/2 years Sandra Boling Grimes and his second wife of 14 years, Shirley Conyers. Also proceeded in death by one sister and her husband, Helen and Bob Foster and brother-in-law, Paul Hunt.

James is survived by daughters Leah (Billy) Whitted of Lake City and Sara Grimes (Bobby Hatfield) of Hoxie. Grandchildren Jordan (Seth) Weisenbach, Hayle Bartlett, Hannah Hatfield, Mark Hatfield (Michelle Moore), Chloe Witcher (Brandin Truitt) and Will Whitted. Great grandchildren Renle Cagle, Della Weisenbach, and Colter Weisenbach. Sister Peggy Hunt. Many other family members also survived.

Funeral services will be as follows: Visitation at Emerson Funeral Home Saturday, January 10th 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. Graveside services to follow at Pine Log Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
